Fresh Start Church encourages Parent/Child Dedication. This event takes place when parents are committed to standing before God and partnering with the church family to raise their children according to the principles found in God’s Word.

Parents are committing to:

  • Serving the local church faithfully
  • Teaching the Word of God as absolute truth
  • Praying for their child’s salvation and growth in Christ
  • Living as a Godly example

Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.  Psalm 127:3

PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION QUESTIONS:

What is Parent/Child Dedication?

Parent/Child Dedication is when parents are committed to standing before God and partnering with the Church to raise their children according to the principles found in God’s Word.  You are recognizing that your child is a gift from God and that you are simply a steward of that gift.  You will seek out and encourage your child to chase after and follow God’s plan for their life.

What's the difference between infant baptism and Parent/Child Dedication?

The Bible teaches salvation is the  choice of each person. Salvation happens when a person recognizes their sin and receives forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Child Dedication is not baptism; it cannot impart grace or salvation to your child.
Baptism is an outward expression or symbol of that inward change that’s taken place after salvation. Baptism does not make you a believer, it shows that you already are a believer.
While we recognize the right of other churches to practice infant christening/baptism, we understand the Bible teaches that only professing believers qualify for baptism. There are no babies or infants baptized in the Bible. Jesus Christ was himself baptized as an adult.
There are many verses in scripture explaining the importance of dedication and raising children in a Godly environment. See: Luke 2:21-22, Ephesians 2:8-9, Ephesians 6:4, 1 Samuel 1:27-28

What if I am not married yet?

Dedication is a declaration (vow) where the parent(s) dedicate themselves to bring their children up in a home where God is first and obedience is modeled. If you’re dating someone and/or living with someone it is very difficult to make that vow when a commitment to each other, through marriage, has not taken place.  We encourage you to talk to us about how we can help you move forward with making that commitment to the Lord and to each other.
If you are a single parent and are not currently seeing anyone or living with anyone, then the same criteria would apply to you as a married couple.  If you are unsure, please register and we can discuss these with you.
See Genesis 2:23-24; 1 Corinthians 7:1-9; Deuteronomy 22:28-29
